Mommy, Look! A Parade!!

Well, not quite exactly. There were many colorfully dressed people on the way to school today. But it was the annual AIDS Life Cycle bike thing this week. It sparks interesting conversation with your older children and fascination in the younger. Why is that guy riding in a dress? How about that one with the tutu? Not to mention that big guy in the lead car with DD hooters. What is AIDS? Fortunately, we had this conversation last year on the same day when our gay friends rode through town. Our carpool parent called us very concerned about what he'd told the kids. He was relieved that I am pretty liberal on the issue and frankly it is quite fun to watch and I almost got into a fender-bender when the Mickey Mouse group rode by (complete with lead car covered in Mickey Mouse stuff). I missed the pig helmet people, but there was a picture in the paper. I honestly don't mind it. I just wish some of them could be a little more "manly" in their gayness. Men's legs are ugly no matter how gay you are and honestly, no one over the age of 7 looks good in a tutu.

Heard while dressing an injury

Kendall: "Roly-polys are not wild animals."

Shelby: "I wish I got hurt instead of Kendall." (Ahhh - you might say, but it was only because she wanted a Dora Band-Aid.)

Height and Weight

So today I took both Kendall and Brennan in for doctor's appointments. It is very interesting how differently my children are built. Kendall is in the 25th percentile for her height and the 50th for weight. So basically she is short and of average size. Brennan on the other hand is in the 90th percentile for height and off the charts for weight. Which both my doctor and I found really hysterical, as will anyone who knows Brennan. She said that he must have really solid bones. She also assured me that he would grow into his boats, I mean, feet eventually. We may not live to see it because his shoes are a death trap when they are in the middle of the floor.

Brennan has recovered from his disappointing night I think. Although, to make the story worse, the team from our school won 1st place. The good to come out of it is that the 4th and 5th grades now know that they need to be there a little earlier tonight. Go Battles School! We think there might have been sabotage at work because our school has placed 1st or 2nd every year the Bee has been held. Conspiracy? Ooooooh......

Cookies and Chocolate Milk

Today Shelby had a field trip to our local pool and I was encouraged to attend. Her teachers just like to use me as slave labor really, but I do enjoy going. I like 5 and 6 year olds and there's nothing like hanging out with 120 wet ones. (That's 4 classes of kindergartners.)

Unfortunately, no siblings were allowed so Kendall spent the morning with Grandpa. He picked her up at Brennan & Tori's school and he brought her home after we got back.

I asked her what she had done and she said that Grandpa took her to McDonald's for breakfast. So I asked what she had. "A cookie and chocolate milk". Nothing like hanging out with the Grandparents. She's going to want to eat breakfast with him everyday. I packed her breakfast by the way - Cookie Crisp and a Capri Sun. Maybe I should pitch it as a combo meal?

Can it get any worse?

So, to prove that things don't always go right for us - here is Brennan's week so far leading up to his big #12 birthday on Friday.

Tonight we went to the district Geography Bee that he was to participate in. It started at 7. So we show up at about 6:50 and the parking lot was kind of full. I was thinking boy people sure are on time tonight. We go in and things are in full swing. His teacher said it was only the practice round and that they would start in a few minutes. Well, turns out it started at 6:30 and he was too late to participate. Turns out our principal had the wrong info. However, the other 2 students from his class were there. They had been listening and heard their teacher tell them to be there at 6:40 and so they were allowed to participate because they were still in the practice round at the time. He was very disappointed and didn't want to stay and so we left. The Grandparents took us out to ice cream to soften the pain. It was a good lesson learned for our son, who has an issue with getting all the information. Growing up is painful.

It gets better for him. This was pretty minor, but still upset him. In our Primary, traditionally they sing "Happy Birthday" to the kids the Sunday before their birthdays. Naturally, Brennan was anticipating this. He was also anticipating the big bag of candy that they give to kids turning 12. Well, our Primary Secretary is a little OCD and likes things just right. They didn't have his Faith in God Award back from the Bishop so decided they just wouldn't sing to him this week, but wait until next week after his birthday when everything is perfect. Poor kid.

Can it get any worse? He does have a doctor appointment tomorrow so who knows? We'll keep you posted.
